Let the Cris Cyborg sweepstakes begin.
At UFC 240, Cris Cyborg fought out the last remaining fight on her UFC contract. Last week, UFC President Dana White revealed that the UFC would be waiving its contractually obligated matching period, effectively releasing Cyborg into the free-agent market three months earlier than expected. Bellator President Scott Coker (who previously worked with Cyborg in Strikeforce) wasted no time in saying he would be making an offer to the former UFC featherweight champion and now, one of the PFL’s leading stars and possible future opponent has also entered the game.
Kayla Harrison is among the best prospects in women’s MMA and one of the brightest stars for PFL. Speaking with TMZ Sports, Harrison suggested that Cyborg would fight in nicely with the PFL and said that the PFL can offer Cyborg something she can’t get anywhere else, an opponent who can actually beat her.
“I think that she would fit right in at the PFL,” Harrison said. “First of all it’s 155 pounds so she wouldn’t be dying to make the weight like she does at 145 and I think that there’s not really anybody else out there that’s gonna give her - I’m gonna beat Cris Cyborg if she comes to the PFL and I don’t think any other organization can offer her that. Plus it’s a win, you fight, you move on type of atmosphere so she’s not gonna have to worry about the promoters liking her or not liking her which seems to be a big problem for her. If you win, you get to continue.”
