"The Canadian Gangster" has found a new home.
Former UFC veteran Olivier Aubin-Mercier has signed with the Professional Fighters League, he said on Wednesday's episode of the Ariel Helwani's MMA Show podcast.
Aubin-Mercier (11-5) last competed in July, when he lost a unanimous decision to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 240 in Edmonton, Alberta. He said that was the final fight on his UFC contract.
The 31-year-old Canadian said he has kept an eye on PFL for the past couple of years because he liked its playoff format.
"I liked it so much that during those two years, I was trying to first win my last three fights in the UFC to finish my contract, but then get in PFL after that," Aubin-Mercier said. "So I'm happy they still took me [despite losing his last UFC fight]. I'm really happy to be with them, and it's gonna be a hell of a ride for the next year."
